The Story of Jana Musselwhite Photography

Last week, I celebrated five years officially in business as a photographer! Five Years seems like a significant milestone, doesn’t it? Especially if we consider the fact that only 50% of small businesses survive five years or longer — I’m giving myself a pat on the back!

Business ownership has helped me grow in ways I never thought possible. It’s introduced me to the kindest, most thoughtful, and creative people in my clients, fellow small business owners, and wedding vendors. While not all days on this journey have been easy, happy, or even beautiful, I can say with 100% certainty that I’ve been grateful for every single one of them.

In honor of five years, I’ve got something a little different for you: the full story of Jana Musselwhite Photography. Everything from how I came to be a photographer, to how I booked my first wedding, to how I made the decision to leave my full-time job as a counselor to pursue this work full-time. And it’s all being delivered to you in the form of a one-time podcast episode. Before you ask… no, hosting a podcast is not in my future plans! But I thought this would be the easiest way for whoever wants to hear the story to download and listen!

2010: My first day shooting film on the 35mm camera my dad let me borrow! I was out to lunch with friends, and someone grabbed this quick photo of me!

Spring 2011: My first engagement session, for my friend Constance and her fiance Andrew. We took photos around Auburn’s campus.

One month later: A bridal session for my friend Katie! I threw together a bouquet of grocery store flowers for her, and my roommate Ashley came along to assist.

May 2015: My first wedding as a photographer, assisting for my dear friend Katherine!  These are a couple of film photos from the first look.

December 2015: My first wedding as lead photographer, for Courtney and Brandon! Assisted by my sweet friend, Lesley.

Many, many weddings and shoots over the years.

May 2021: Celebrating leaving my counseling career to pursue photography full-time! I had a few friends over to my back yard, popped some champagne, and spent the night celebrating.

2021 & 2022: Many weddings photographed, and many more to come!
